Tips for Keeping Track of All Your Job Applications by Khoi Huynh
As college students, you submit your resumes to various companies in hopes
of securing an internship or a full-time job. Here are some strategies you
should follow to maximize your chances of becoming a successful job
seeker.
1. Create a master sheet spreadsheet
A spreadsheet is important for tracking all records and updates on your job
applications. Programs like Excel or Google Sheets offer templates, or you
can create your own. Necessary columns should include job title, company
name, date applied, application status, contact person, interview date,
follow-up date, and notes.
2. Set reminder and alerts
Some deadlines may be given to you during the job application process, and
you don’t want to miss an important date with a potential employer. For that
reason, consider using a calendar app or task manager to set reminders and
alerts for any key dates and actions. Most importantly, check your
notifications regularly to ensure you don’t miss any tasks.
3. Review your progress
As you apply for multiple jobs, you may feel disappointed and frustrated by
rejections. To keep your confidence high, review your progress and
celebrate your achievements for each application you’ve completed. You can
create a spreadsheet to track how many applications you’ve submitted, how
many progressed to the first or second round of interviews, and how many
offers you’ve received. This data will help you better understand where
improvements are needed.
