How to Ace a Job Interview by Victoria Bodo
Acing a job interview requires confidence, preparation, and strong presentation and
communication skills.
One of the first things you want to do, before your job interview, is research the company, and
the position that you are applying for. Make sure you know the company’s mission statement,
values, recent projects, achievements and accomplishments. This will allow you to align your
responses with the company’s values, showing that you will be able to contribute to them.
Practice for the interview, with your friends or family, but having them ask you questions. These
questions can also be simple questions like “Tell me about yourself”, “What’s your greatest
strength/ What is your weakness” which are common questions that most interviewers ask. You
do not want to have rehearsed answers, or answers that are too long. You can take some time to
consider your answers if needed. Interviewers look for confidence, and honesty.
First impressions matter, so do not be late to the interview, but rather be early. It is important to
also dress professionally and appropriately. Business casual is the safe and best way to go for an
interview.
During the interview, make sure you are respectful and actively listening. It is always good to ask
a question of your own, or express gratitude and enthusiasm.
After the interview, it is nice to either send a “Thank-you” email, or card, for the opportunity
and gratitude for the interview for the position. This will leave the company with a good -lasting
impression of you. Kindness always wins.
It’s important to remember, that if you may not get a position, it does not mean you did not do
well on the interview.
Remember to be yourself, be confident, and be communicative, and all will fall into place, and
you will ace a job interview!
